Today was our last full day which was very sad! We began the day at the Church of Chora which means countryside in Greek. It was built in the 13th century and converted to a mosque in the 15th century...which means all the mosaic icons were plastered over. It is now just a museum and the mosaic icons are being uncovered and restored. These mosaics are made of thousands of hand-cut colored glass. To say they were stunning is a understatement! My favorite icon we saw many times was the image of Jesus ascending from hell and grabbing the hand of Adam and Eve to raise them and their descendants from the grave. A powerful statement that the second Adam accomplished what the first Adam could not.
Next we visited the palace of the Ottoman's which were in power from 1299-1923. It was beautiful and the rooms, clothing, jewelry and weapons on display were tremdendous. We ducked in and out of the rain to see this expansive property.
We ended the day with a delicious meal at a restaurant called Meze. If you ever come to Istanbul, put this restaurant on your list!
Enjoy the pics! I think I can speak for all to,say we are retiring home full and restored and renewed in the Lord!
