FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 21 – ISTANBUL

Read I, II, III John

Winding down in our pilgrimage, today we visit the Church of St. Savior in Chora, with remnants of mosaics from the 12th and 14th-centuries. Above the front door, you can still make out a kneeling Theodosius offering Christ a model of the church. The whole story of the beginnings of Christianity is told on these walls. The Turks converted the church of the Holy Savior in Chora into the Kariye Cami in the reign of Bayezit II (1481-1512). Continue to Topkapi Palace, legendary residence of the Ottoman sultans. See the treasury, the kitchens and the harem quarter. Then, enjoy some free time at the exhilarating Grand Bazaar of Istanbul.
